Zeelandbrug and De Oosterscheldekering

Built in 1965, the Zeeland Bridge bridges the Oosterschelde between Zierikzee and Colijnsplaat and connects Noord-Beveland with Schouwen-Duiveland. The bridge with a length of 5022 meters is the longest bridge in the Netherlands. The bridge rests on 54 pillars that are 95 meters apart.

The Oosterscheldekering or storm surge barrier is without a doubt the most impressive part of the Delta Works. The barrier is 9 kilometers long and consists of two pillar rows with a total of 65 huge concrete pillars. It is also a road connection between Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland.

If you drive from Zierikzee in the direction of Goes on the N256 you will automatically reach the Zeeland Bridge. Then head towards Middelburg (capital of the Province of Zeeland) and Vlissingen. These two cities are certainly worth a walk there. Then take the N57 towards Burgh-Haamstede and view the Oosterscheldekering on the way back to Zierikzee.
